The first Solar eclipse for the year begins at 8:12 am UTC (1:42 pm IST) on 10th June, lasting for a maximum duration of approximately 5 hours. The exact start and end of the eclipse will vary between different regions in the world. Much of Asia, Europe, America, Arctic and Atlantic regions will experience the eclipse partially, namely, U.S.A, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, U.K., Ireland, Norway, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Russia, China. The eclipse will be completely visible in the northern-most parts of Canada, Greenland, and Russia. The peak of the eclipse takes place at 10:41 am UTC (4:11 pm IST).
Although the eclipse will not be visible in India and some parts of the world, the effects of any eclipse are felt globally as they come to impact the environment that we are all singularly part of. The lunar eclipse of May and solar of June will have its impact felt over the next 4.5 months. This eclipse is particularly special as it falls on the day of Shani Jayanti, the birthday of the planet Saturn. Note the eclipse path below.

Annular Solar Eclipse Path (Source: timeanddate. com)
An annular eclipse takes place when the Moon covers the Sun’s center, leaving the Sun’s outer edge to form a ring-like shape or annulus around the Moon. The Moon is between the Earth and the Sun. In other words, the Sun and Moon conjoin or meet at a particular point. The Moon’s orbit around Earth intersects the ecliptic at two points. These points are the North node or Rahu and South node or Ketu.
According to Vedic Astrology, solar eclipses takes place on a New Moon day when the Sun and Moon conjoin the shadow planet, Rahu or Ketu. In other words, the Sun and Moon cross the ecliptic point of the North node (Rahu) or South node (Ketu). The North node is where the Moon crosses from the southern to the northern hemisphere, and the south node is where the Moon crosses from the northern to the southern hemisphere.
During this time, the Sun’s vital rays of light are completely blocked, disconnecting us from our souls, putting us under the gaze of maya or illusion which the shadow planets represent. Typically, a New Moon day is when the mind, body and soul are focused and in alignment with each other. As the waxing phase of the Moon passes through its cycle, that is, from no moon making its way to new moon, it starts to become brighter and happier as it receives more and more of the Sun’s light with each progressing day.
On the New Moon day, it receives maximum positive rays of sunshine. The Sun representing the soul communicates with the Moon representing the mind. On this day, the mind is balanced and sensible. The Sun provides direction, strength and courage for it to take action and lead. But when there is an eclipse on a new moon day, the Moon falls on the ecliptic of the shadow of Rahu-Ketu blocking the Sun’s light, and, in that moment, the Earth is in a state of complete darkness. It is at this point however we are presented with an opportunity to put our best foot forward in the right direction. Note below a pictorial representation of the eclipse on a Vedic Astrology chart.

Solar Eclipse Chart on 10th June 2021
Notice that the Rahu-Ketu axis falls in the zodiac signs of Taurus and Scorpio. On this annular eclipse, we have the Sun and Moon conjunct Rahu (the ascending node where the Moon is crossing from the southern hemisphere to the north). Additionally, Retrograde Mercury is conjunct in the same sign. Two weeks prior, we saw a Lunar eclipse with the Moon conjunct the south node Ketu in Scorpio; and the Sun conjunct the north node, Rahu, and Venus. The Moon has now travelled through the zodiac signs between Scorpio and Aries and is now positioned in Taurus, where the eclipse is taking place. Mercury, which was transiting the sign of Gemini along with Mars, has now retrograded back into the previous sign. Mars has now moved ahead into Cancer and Venus into Gemini. Retrograde Saturn is in the sign of Capricorn and Jupiter is placed in Aquarius.
Two main planets that need to be studied together during this eclipse is Mars and Saturn. Mars is placed in the sign of Cancer, where it is debilitated. Saturn is placed in its own sign of Capricorn. The two planets aspect each other, which is a powerful point of reference to note. Mars becomes extremely unhappy here as he is unable to express his true innate qualities and energy. Mars is a warrior that likes to go into battle and fight. In the nurturing sign of Cancer ruled over by the Moon, he is forced to become soft and mellow. Mars becomes like a disabled soldier in war, where he cannot be of any good use as he feels unable to express his strengths.
To make matters worse, he is looked over by the Chief Justice of all planets, Saturn, who is well and happy to be in his own sign of Capricorn. Saturn feels comfortable expressing his nature here. Through his 7th house aspect, he forces Mars to bring much needed discipline and structure. It’s like when a Judge orders the policemen to stop interrogation with a suspect. A policeman’s job is to investigate and arrest criminals but now he is forced to sit back and deal with administrative paperwork. But this is not so bad because both Saturn and Mars are planets with similar energies, that is, they are both malefic planets that bring about change through harshness. Mars here is now able to understand and learn what it takes to be an efficient and effective policeman. This is also the reason why Mars gets exalted in Saturn’s sign of Capricorn.
The chart of the solar eclipse also produces key Raj Yogas or special combinations that enable a planet or a group of planets to function at its best. Venus sits in Gemini, ruled over by Mercury, and Mercury sits in Taurus, ruled over by Venus. This type of exchange between two planets is what’s referred to as Parivartana. The planets are in a sambandha, meaning that they are completely connected to one another and so they work in unison. Any association with either planet enables the other. Here Mercury and Venus have a great understanding with each other connected to the houses they are placed in. In the solar eclipse chart, Mercury is in the 9th house and Venus in the 10th. This is yet again another powerful Raj Yoga called Dharma-karmadhipati. It occurs when the lord of the trine (9th house) exchanges with the lord of the angular house (10th house).
Mercury being the lord of the Ascendant performs really well being placed in the strongest of all trine houses (i.e., 9thhouse). The lord of the 11th house in the chart gets exalted in the 9th house, again a very powerful combination. The Moon is exalted here and placed along with the Sun. The King and Queen in the planetary cabinet represented by the Sun and Moon are still affected in this ecliptic phenomenon despite being placed in a trine house.
Saturn in Vedic Astrology has three aspects or in other words, the houses that are watched over by the planet in question. These are the 3rd, 7th and 10th aspects. In the eclipse chart above, Saturn being the lord of the auspicious trine, i.e., the 5thhouse, is aspecting from here the 7th house, 11th house (where Mars is placed) and 2nd house. The planet Mars has three aspects – the 4th, 7th and 8th. From where it is positioned in this chart, Mars looks at the 2nd, 5th house (where Saturn is placed) and 6th house (where Jupiter is placed). Jupiter has the 5th, 7th and 9th aspects. From the sixth house where he is positioned, he watches over the 10th house, 12th house and 2nd house. The three most powerful planets, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter are all aspecting the sign of Libra in the second house. Libra ruled by Venus, is the sign where Saturn gets exalted.
Furthering our analysis, we see that Mars is placed in Pushya nakshatra, yet again ruled over by Saturn. The three main planets in question with regard to this eclipse, i.e., the Sun, Moon and Mercury, are all placed in Mrigashira nakshatra, ruled over by Mars. Rahu is placed in Rohini nakshatra ruled by Moon. Note here that Moon is exalted in the sign of Taurus. We also see that Venus and Mercury exchange and sit in each other’s signs. On the other side of the axis, Ketu is placed in Anuradha nakshatra, ruled by Saturn. Jupiter is placed in Shatabishak nakshatra, ruled by Rahu.
Business forecast
The exchange between the 9th and 10th lords indicate that there is a general positive outlook in business that has the ability to improve luck and transform karmic underpinnings through new partnerships and ventures. Since the malefic planets Mars and Saturn aspect each other from the 11th house of financial gains and 5th house of speculative money markets respectively, there will be a financial crisis of sorts with people more engaged in borrowing in order sustain their livelihoods.
Saturn from here aspecting the 7th, 11th and 2nd indicate that there will be new business ventures with old accounts being settled and new debts created from borrowing at current market rates. New partnerships in the form of mergers and acquisitions will prove to be a worthwhile investment financially in helping to settle old balances and starting afresh. We predict that a lot of people are going to look beyond in joint ventures and collaborate constructively. A point to be noted here is that those with strong willpower and a track record of good past karma and righteousness (dharma), will be able to recover and move forward to greater heights.
Health forecast
Jupiter placed in the sixth house of diseases indicate that the race to conquer the coronavirus is not completely finished yet. The battle will continue on as per the movement of Jupiter and Saturn over the next couple of years. Some parts of the world will continue to be affected on and off in waves, while some nations being able to cope better than the rest.
We predict that until 20th July, those in the medical field will remain in high demand, after which things may start to ease with greater control. We urge astrologers around the world to research in detail these planets and historical events connected with them to gain a comprehensive understanding of what lies ahead.
The World at a Glance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make history. In our previous article we predicted that he will introduce new policies on vaccinations to help India battle against the COVID-19 pandemic and the economy. On 7th June he announced the introduction of a new vaccination program that is to be implemented in two weeks’ time with 25% of the work that will now be handled by the central government. Increased supply of free vaccines will be made available from June 21 onwards and a cap on prices is set for private hospitals.
The collaboration on newly set guidelines will help strengthen the bond between state and central governments. This unprecedented move is going to help recover the nation significantly from the inside out. In addition, Modi’s decision on matters relating to education, particularly on CBSE board examinations will prove to be beneficial for all.
As we said earlier in our previous article, the farmer’s protest will come to a peaceful resolution. Modi’s flexibility in policy matters will improve, along with increasing public popularity. He will spend more time in matters concerning the youth and will reform health and education systems. His new policies will be quite beneficial for low-, middle- and upper-middle-income families. 20th July onwards, India will be in a much better position having great relief and enthusiasm for the future ahead. The lunar eclipse gave PM Modi time to reflect and strategize effectively. This solar eclipse will give him a vision to rebuild faith in his own leadership and strength to do good for the people of his country.
We predicted in our previous article on the lunar eclipse of 26th May that younger populations will be affected by the virus. This current solar eclipse will help them recover and gain momentum in health matters. The youth of India in particular will stand up and prove to benefit the world as a whole with their creative vision in education, health, economy and finance. They will emerge as great and powerful forces in the world.
After mid-September, there will be a revival in travel industries around the world as people start to move around. Universities and colleges will reopen, requiring us to work harder. Intellectual pursuits will improve gradually. The last year and a half we have been glued to virtual offices with ZOOM-fatigue due to a work-from-home lifestyle. However, September onwards this will change as we move back into traditional office environments.
There could be mergers and take overs in the aviation, land and real estate markets, thereby boosting economies globally. The aviation industry in particular will improve in 4.5 months’ time. The leaders in Europe, along with Japan and Russia will join hands together. Japan will see a major shift 20th June onwards and by 20th July, nations in the far east will witness a transformation. America is going to lead the world as it did in the past. This eclipse is going to benefit USA greatly. Although we can still expect to have natural calamities, the majority of the world will not be affected as much. China, however, needs to be extremely cautious with natural disasters and economic failures.
We predict that the Lunar and Solar Eclipses of 2023 will be significant for the world at large. America, India, Russia and China will be in a state of flux once again in 2023. Leaders need to watch out and act decisively.
General forecast and concluding remarks
Due to the position of Sun and Moon in the 9th house along with Rahu and Mercury, there will be some issues related to business partnerships and personal relationships. However, there will be a boost to matters concerning romance and feel-good emotions.
On an individual level, the eclipse is indicating to us all that we need to make the right choices moving forward with calm reflection and mindfulness. The eclipse is a time when we are given an opportunity in the slight moment of darkness to recognize our shadow nature. We are forced to look within ourselves; our negative self-talk and destructive patterns of behaviour. We are also forced to consider individual gains and collective losses, collective wins and individual failures.
The axis of Rahu and Ketu this year is nothing short of a roller coaster ride given the pandemic, when it comes to our material resources, cash flows and fixed assets, that come in stark contrast to collective gains as a society with public goods and services. The planets reflect our economic gains benefitted by individuals and big pharma in providing mass vaccinations to the world at large. This eclipse makes things a little bit clearer to us as to how we should proceed into the future; how we want the new world order to look, and what we want our future grandchildren to be like. The answer is right under our noses. Seek salvation and surrender.
As it happens, Shani Jayanti falls close to this solar eclipse on 10th June. This is a very rare occurrence and marks the arrival of Lord Saturn. It gives us hope that industrialization and production will improve significantly so that we can lead normal lives again. This ecliptic phenomenon overall indicates that those who are religious, disciplined, just, and abiding by the laws of nature will be able to develop strong spiritual immune systems with the blessings of Shani Dev. We advise chanting Beej mantras particularly of Saturn along with mantras of all 9 planets, Hanuman Chalisa and Surya Sahasranama.
Always remember that with faith and trust in one another we can transform ourselves.
