THE ASTROLOGERS TRUST OF INDIA
ASTROLOGY IS A DIVINE SCIENCE
Lord Brahma

Lord Brahma is the Creator and Preserver of the Scriptures. He is the father of all fathers and is called Pithama, the Grandfather. He appeared from the navel of Lord Narayana who was lying in yogic sleep (Yoga Nidra) on Shesha (who represents time) in Kshira Sagara, the primeval oceans of milk. Being self-manifested, he is called Svayambhu. As soon as he appeared, he took refuge in penance. As a result of his long penance, he saw Lord Narayana. On his advice, he took the resolution of creation. Inspired by the Lord, Goddess Saraswati entered his heart and made him chant the four Vedas and Upavedas, including astrology, with his four mouths. He is the creator, maintainer and protector of the universe – ‘Brahma devaanam prathamah sambabhuva visvasya karta bhuvanasya gopta.’ (Manduka Upanishad 1.1.1).
The entire visible and invisible world and the entire life body is created by Lord Brahma. Inspired by the inconceivable power of the Lord, when Brahma created many kinds of things, but he was not satisfied with him, he created the human body. ‘Avatharānke mool prerak’ means the fundamental cause behind divine incarnations or the root motivator for the descent of avatars. Brahma is said to be this cause and root for the incarnation of God. He is the main reason of all welfare. All creation include human creation are the children of
Brahma and thus it is in his best interest to see the prosperity of his people and descendants. He not only inspired living beings to follow the path of divinity through his teachings, he also revealed that the Vedas constitutes this knowledge. He created a number of religions so that a person can follow many aspects of ethical living and good conduct on Earth. He has given knowledge of all forms of nature along with living beings in the universe, how the visible and invisible work in synchrony, the relationship between the macro- and microcosms, effect of planets and stars on daily activities of human beings, element of time and methods of knowing it, the movement of cosmic bodies in the sky and reason for their inception and end.
Brahma is the main observer of matter including the planets. The main basis of astrology is time and the timescale is calculated from the age of Lord Brahma and is called ‘Brahmamaan’, referring to the infinite nature of Brahma. One day of Brahma is called a Kalpa. There are 14 Manvantaras in one Kalpa. The universe is created with the rise of one Brahma day. At the end of the day, the night time is equally long. Brahma spends half his as the first Paradha (50 years) and second Paradha. We are today living in the first day or Kalpa of his 51st year. In the first half of Brahma, the Kalpa is counted from Rathankar Kalpaand the second Shwetavarah Kalpa. Thus we are currently on Shwetavarah Kalpa.
Our of 14 Manvantaras of this Kalpa, 6 Manvantaras have already passed and after the 28th Mahayuga Satya, Treata and Dwapara have passed, the 28th Kaliyuga is going on.
This chronology of time is the main subject of astrology. The age of brahma determines the element of time. The start of a Yuga, a Samvatsara, calculation of seasons, movement of planets, sunrise and sunset are all determined by brahma. After one kalpa of brahma or one day there is a doomsday called Kalpa Pralaya. When brahma's life purpose is complete there is a natural cataclysm or end in which the creator brahma and the entire light world that is the planets stars and other solar systems merge. At this point, the entire universe merges in what is called the perfect brahmin. This is the ultimate annihilation, by time action and nature, where by then the jyoti chakra is initiated.
Astrology was created by brahma along with the Vedas brahma is the grand father and the astrological theory originated by him is called Pitamaha Siddhanta. He revealed the four Vedas for the purpose of sacrifice and the performance of this sacrifices based on the knowledge of time. Therefore, for the accomplishment of this sacrifice brahma compiled the astrology of time and passed it on to his son Sage Narada. Narada understood the importance of the scripture and introduced it to the world.
He revealed the knowledge of the twelve houses as he heard from Lord Brahma. Avantikacharya Sri Varahamihira mentions in the Brihat Samhita of the same. Acharya Kamalakarabhatta mentions this in the Navinsiddhanta Panchaka. Lord Brahma has thus taught Narada, Garga, Parashar, Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Varahamihira and many others. Varahamihira existed in the 427 Shaka and compased the Panchasiddhantika, Brihatsamhita and Brihajjataka. He also explains the five ancient principles of mathematics in Panchasiddhantika. He also explains the Pitamaha Siddhanta. In one chapter he explains the five verses describing the planets, mathematics (theory), Pitamaha theory for knowledge. In this, the Sun and Moon are calculated from the mean and the date, constellation, festival, etc have been calculated from the middle mind. According to the Pitamaha theory, the age of the Sun and Moon is 5 years. There is one lunar month in thirty lunar months. The constellation begins with Sagittarius.
In the Ashwamedha Parva of the Mahabharata, Brahma tells the Maharishis that first there is day and then night, hence the beginning of night is day. Similarly, Shukla Paksha is the beginning of the month, the constellation named Shravan is the beginning of the constellations and the beginning of the seasons is winter season. There have been several comparisons to Vedic Astrology.
In the Mahabharata, Brahma hosts a divine assembly of Gods called a Susukha. In this he explains, all the planets like Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Saturn and Raha-Ketu, all the Vedas, Upavedas (Ayurveda, Dhanurveda, Gandharvaveda, Arthashastra) and Vedangas (Shiksha, Kalpa, Nirukta, Grammar, Chhanda and Astrology) are all idolized forms of divinity.
There is a direct essence of time, moment, day, night, months, seasons, sixty Samvatsaras, Five Yugas, four types of day and night (humans, ancestors, Gods and Brahma). Brahma preaches the path of righteaousness. He said that a man becomes like the people he lives and associates with. Just like a cloth that becomes like the colour in which it is dyed in, similarly, if a person keeps the company of a gentleman, a bad gentleman, an ascetic or a thief, he becomes like that. The kind of people he lives with and the kind of people he serves, a man becomes whatever he wishes to become if he serves the saint. Just as a garment comes under the control of the dyed colour, so does the man that comes under the control of the one he serves.
